Laurie

Where did my arms go
that cold, dark night
drunken and wild
around your body
they could not hold fast, only
shoot off upward
into the darkness.

Laurie, you have abandoned words
for the quiet cloister of moonlight,
safe from my howling breath
and ravish,
and the gaze you cast me went
uncaught as I laid next to you,
numbed and laughing.
